Horse and Snake

author's book
created: 2019 ›› ››
graphic design:

How does a snake go up the stairs? Or dance the Cancan with a horse?  Can it really be the horse’s bridge, or is that a pons asinorum? Are five shoes enough for the two of them? Why can’t the snake look at its watch? What happens when one of them tries to imitate the other? And where in the world are they going? In Klára Zahrádková’s humorous picture book, an apparently incompatible couple comes to life in every situation, variation and position possible and impossible. An absurdist game and exploration of opposites, tricks and guile, lyricism and farce, tenderness and the grotesque: in the best sense possible, the author returns to the game of Morgensternesque absurdism, transforming it into an image comprehendible to children and grownups alike.

Published by Xao and Baobab. Layout by KZ and Juraj Horváth. Kindly supported by Nadace Miroslava Šaška and the Ministery of Culture Czech republic.

Third place in The Most Beautiful Czech Books Competition 2017 in the author's book category.
